Holy Grail for Peak Baggers

I am not sharing the exact location of this peak. It should be discovered like a treasure.

Journal Entry Summer 2005: Summit and I have spent the last couple days peak bagging in the San Juans. Yesterday...yesterday was a classic! We hiked up the ****Lakes Trail and darted west at the lowest lake. In one hour we traversed and found a world class view. After tethering Summit on the ridge, I ventured rocky terrain, crossed loose gullies, and finally reached the top. There was a canister I could not open even after 15 minutes. I decided the multi-pound container was doing nothing if it could not be opened, so I brought it home. It took 30 minutes of WD 40 and pounding with a hammer on an anvil to finally rid the cap.

And guess what I found? Yes, my second San Juan Mountioneers' register! In 1934, Carlton Long led a party of 15 to the summit. Ten others had signed in since. This includes the second party, 50 years later in 1984! Mike Garret, Bob Martin, Art Tauchen, Jon Lawyer, Andy Sawyer, Jody Urbane, Bob Rosebrough, Erie Stomeyer, Ken Noland, and Jean Aschenbrenner are the legends on this list.

Next, what to do with the register? Put it in the CMC clubhouse? The thrill would be gone. No, Steve hasn't climbed it yet. I'll call him tonight. (Steve returned it when he climbed the peak.)

This is NOT the register I wrote about in the above article. I do not want to share that information. This is a register left by legendary climber Bob Martin. Bob was the first to climb all the 13ers and left many, many registers. Most have been replaced, so it is always a treasure to find one of these.
